Botanical insect growth regulator Neemix® 4.5 Gets lower REI and signal word on product label

Federal EPA approves two significant changes to the product label of Neemix 4.5, a botanical insect growth regulator from Advan LLC. The signal word for Neemix 4.5 has been reduced to “caution,” and its re-entry interval (REI) now allows growers to return to their fields four short hours after the product has been applied. Advan management says the less-restrictive changes should broaden the use of Neemix 4.5, which is OMRI-approved and used by organic and conventional growers to control aphid, leafminer, whitefly and thrips in specialty agriculture crops.

The active ingredient of Neemix 4.5, azadirachtin, is derived from the neem tree. When Neemix 4.5 is applied to crops prior to or at egg hatch, it interrupts the life cycle of insect pests. The insects stop feeding while Neemix 4.5 makes it impossible for them to molt. No molt means no adults and no succeeding populations.
